Welcome to Skyward Creations
As of 12/31/2023, Skyward Creations has closed operation. Thank you all for your support.
Skyward Creations is a business that really started when my mom was concerned about my stress level and was looking for a creative outlet. She found out about the art studio at the City of Columbia through a co-worker. Thanks Mike R! The next thing we knew we were taking pottery classes and learning how to hand build with coils and slabs of clay and then the wheel. We enjoyed it all, the people and instructor were wonderful and are great friends today. We continued to work at the City of Columbia Arts center for several years and were eventually introduced to the firing method of Raku. In working with this firing method, you make your piece, bisque fire it in a regular kiln and ultimately glaze and fire it in a raku kiln. From the red-hot kiln the piece is removed and placed into a substance that will catch on fire (i.e. a trash can with newspaper, etc). The piece starts the fire since it's over 1,000 degrees and you seal the container to finish the process. This is a rough description of the process, which can get very technical and complicated if desired. In experimenting with raku, we started making crosses for pendants. With the encouragement of our friends and family, we continued to move forward.
And here we are today. Skyward Creations represents the collaborative works of a mother and daughter team that have always enjoyed creating and decorating. We enjoy working together and working with other artists. We have been involved with several artist groups in the Columbia, SC area including the Midlands Clay Arts Society and the Trenholm Artist Guild. Great people and great art. We hope you enjoy our artwork and will visit us at a show soon. God Bless - Sandra & Yolanda
